This smooth, creamy, and incredibly dreamy chocolate mousse comes together in about 10 minutes and is the perfect dessert to serve for any occasion!
10-Minute Chocolate Mousse
It’s no secret around here that I absolutely love chocolate. But mix it with cream and sugar?? I’m head over heels for it. This dessert was created because I’m a firm believer that the simplest things are often some of the most memorable things. If you’re already thinking ahead to Valentine’s Day and planning your dessert… this one would be an absolute show-stopper!
What is Chocolate Mousse?
The classic, French-style chocolate mousse is made with eggs, but we’re skipping those for this recipe so we can have delectable chocolate mousse in about 10 minutes of hands-on time. Of course, there’s always a time and a place for making the real thing, but there’s also a time and a place for taking a little shortcut.
If you love chocolate, this chocolate mousse is for you. It’s basically like eating creamy, scoopable chocolate. What could be better than that? That’s why it’s sooo important for you to use a high-quality chocolate here (just like in this chocolate cake recipe). This is where most of the flavor is coming from, so it’s worth investing in the good stuff! I always use Ghirardelli bittersweet chocolate, and it comes out perfect every time.
Ingredients for Chocolate Mousse
- Gelatin powder
- Bittersweet chocolate
- Heavy cream
- Granulated sugar
Tips for Making Chocolate Mousse
- Use a high-quality chocolate. I know I already said this above, but it is so important, so I’m saying it again. Most of the flavor comes from your selected chocolate – which means you’ll want to choose a really good one! Now is not the time for the bag of chocolate chips you have in the back of your pantry. It’s time for a high-quality chocolate that you’d dream of eating all by itself!
- Use plastic wrap when chilling the mousse! Mousse can form a skin pretty easily on the top, so be sure to wrap it tightly in plastic wrap before you place it in the refrigerator to let it chill.
- Use the warmth of your hand to make beautiful chocolate curls. If you were to just take a vegetable peeler to a cold chocolate bar you’d end up with chocolate shards instead of chocolate curls. If you hold the chocolate bar firmly in your hand for about 30 seconds (like in the image below), then run the vegetable peeler along the edge, you’ll end up with much prettier curls!
I hope you all love this recipe as much as I do, and if you make it be sure to tag me on socials @sarahsdayoff so I can see all the fun images!!
