I get questions like this all the time from other sweet moms so I figured I’d share my (not so) secret🤍 when I got pregnant with owen (my oldest) I had so many people tell me to “wave goodbye to my hobbies,” and honestly I did not really appreciate those comments because looking back from where I am now, it couldn’t be further from the truth and it is so not the thing to say to a new mom! the thing about motherhood is that yes, you will have less alone time on your hands, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take the time to learn something new. when I’m baking and gardening, owen and landon are usually right there next to me (either digging in their designated garden box, helping me sow seeds, pouring the milk into the mixer, unwrapping the butter from its packaging, etc.). they’re learning at the same time that I’m learning and they love it. there’s nothing like seeing the look on owen’s face when he takes a bite out of the donuts we just made together from scratch🤍 sewing is reserved for nap times and post-bedtime only because there’s nothing toddler-friendly about needles, scissors, or pins😅 and that’s exactly what I do almost every night after we put the boys down - noah is either studying or practicing piano while I sew right next to him. we don’t watch TV (except for our favorite baking shows every once and a while), and we don’t watch the news, scroll, etc. I’ve learned that I can either get caught up in the trap of mainstream media or use my free time to learn something new and do what I love most - create. so that’s exactly what I do! and also, I don’t sew every day - when someone would rather be rocked for 2 hours rather than take a nap in their crib, that’s what we do. I know I’ll only have my kids with me at this age in their life one time, so I try and soak up every moment I can! my sewing projects and my gardens and all the cakes I want to bake will always be there - but my children, at this specific stage in their life, will not. If you’re a mom you know that it all comes down to one word - balance👼🏼🤍🕊️
